10 Years Quiet, One Step Loud – My First Time Speaking at a WordPress Meetup

I know I have a lot to unpack for the past two months but let me prioritize this one first. This one is a milestone worth-sharing, and I wouldn’t want to wait for another month before dropping this one.

This wasn’t the first WordPress Meetup I attended. Back on March 15, 2025, I got invited to quietly join the event at my university and the afterparty, where I first learned about the existent WordPress community, filled with collaborators from diverse industries. This is such a huge network, and I am profoundly amazed at how the ecosystem has been sustained and continuously innovated out of different blooms of passion and the drive to be consistent at being the most reliable platform for creatives, businesses, and individuals alike.

Since then, I joined other meetups, like the one in Cagayan de Oro. Months later, I decided to take the leap of faith and registered on the 4th Iligan Meetup, where it was actually a show-and-tell session for enthusiasts to share about their WordPress experience.

Let me start this part by saying, “Who would’ve thought?” Really. Never imagined me making it this far.

I’ve been on stage many times, mostly as an events host and a teacher, but never as a resource speaker. Initially, I was supposed to be at Zamboanga Meetup as I was referred to speak there, but the schedule clashed with some other important affairs, so I had to let go of the opportunity. It became a redirection, as I was meant to kickstart this journey at my very home court; Iligan City.

I talked about how this started from a mere university homework, how this website has been rebranded many times, all while continuously writing my thoughts about the things I am interested about. This space has been helping me in improving the way I write, as well as in sharing thoughts and insight that I think are helpful to other people.

I also highlighted how important it is to raise awareness about the community, as this can help not only in network-building and career growth, but also in continuously breathing life to the ecosystem in itself. The usage of the Feynman Technique is timely in this context, as each user has a different understanding and perception of the platform and when events like Meetups and WordCamps are initiated, these viewpoints can serve as catalyst of development and growth.

I then emphasized that I would love to have more experiences, and I even wish to clutch my first WordCamp in the near future, all while continuously growing on the platform. As a teacher myself, I also realized how I can actually integrate this into my future lessons. Being a writer has led me to many amazing things like this one, and I’d love to share the beauty of such experience in any way I can.

Overall, I am glad and proud to have been contributing to WordPress in my own way.

Thank you for this opportunity, WordPress Iligan!

Of course, I couldn’t forget about the very man who led me into this path. Hello again, paqs.me, who also became my co-speaker during this event. Thank you for helping me in opening coffeepotato.com to the world.
