More Coffee in the Midst of Pandemic

So I have been inactive for quite a while now and I haven’t provided any update about what’s going on in my colorful life.

Of course I’ve been whiny about not being able to go to my favorite places since COVID-19 happened, just like most of us. But during the seven months (probably turning eight), I was actually blessed enough to find some opportunities for me to grow, not only as a young professional, but as a human being with a desire of peace and empathy.

I’m still working in an ESL company as an English tutor. This is probably the job I could never let go for a very long time, since I’m genuinely happy being an advocate of sharing the beauty of the English language worldwide. I’ve met lots of friends from different countries, specifically Japan and South Korea, and I’ve learned so much about their beautiful culture. In fact, I resumed my self-training of Nihonggo, as I found it very useful not only in my job but even in my leisure time, whenever I watch anime series or read some of my favorite manga. In the near future, I do hope to see my internet friends/students in person and hang out with them.

I also went back to my shadow-writing sidelines. I’m currently helping two of my friends with their theses and I was also able to help lots of students and researchers recently with their academic papers. I wasn’t really after the good cash I can potentially get, but I was warming up for my journey in getting a master’s degree soon. It was also a good opportunity to improve my writing skills, as it has been my passion since childhood.

Speaking of educational journeys, I’m currently enrolled in the university, which is my alma mater, under the Certification Program for Teachers (CPRT). Yes, you got it right. I’m aiming to get a teaching license real soon. I just love teaching and it makes me genuinely happy whenever I see my students satisfied with the knowledge I shared with them. I’ve been wanting to contribute to our society by sharing what I know. Special thanks to my parents and son for their consistent support. I’m also glad to have another circle of friends with diverse culture and professions. I also got opportunities to be part of our university’s webinars and even participate as a moderator. It’s been a long time since the last public appearance I had.

Did I mention that I also got hooked into gardening? If you check my Facebook profile, I recently started my own gardening journey with the help of my mom. I just found comfort in taking care of my plants and watch them grow and bloom into gorgeous oxygen providers. I’m also starting to appreciate and be grateful to my mom for putting a beautiful rooftop garden in our two-story home. It has been one of my favorite places to chill and escape the “hustle and bustle” of my job and studies.

My little Caleb has been growing really fast, too! He knows how to construct his sentences and communicate his thoughts and feelings. He also has fascinations with animals; insects to be exact. I am so happy that my little angel is learning how to get close to nature.

I’m glad to share these all to you, dear reader. I’ve been emotionally struggling too and it just got worse when the pandemic started. I’m so blessed to be surrounded by people who pushes me to the best version of myself and even help me find ways to be successful. I couldn’t ask for more.

I hope you’ve been doing great lately as well. I hope you find light in this “life update” I wrote tonight. May you continue to grow and bloom into the person you’re always meant to be.

That’s it for now! ‘Til the next writing, dear reader. More cups of coffee to drink indeed!

-Winslyn.
